The Santa Special Embsay Steam Railway.
What better way to get in the Christmas spirit than on a scenic steam railway journey with Santa?
Every year the heritage carriages of Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway are festively decorated and loaded up with presents and gifts as Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to ride the popular steam line.
There’s plenty of activities at the stations for all the family to enjoy and a chance to indulge in a mince pie complemented with a drop of mulled wine.
Climb on-board one of the lovingly restored heritage carriages, pulled by a vintage steam engine, and get ready for a memorable trip.
The one-hour round trip journey starts in the pretty village of Embsay, south of Skipton, where you can enjoy the stunning panoramic views of crags and undulating hills as you pass the Draughton Sidings, overlooked by picturesque stone cottages.
The dramatic scenery continues to unfold around you as your steam-hauled heritage heads towards Holywell Halt with the magnificent Craven Fault in view, before running to the Stoneacre loop, the only passing place for the locomotives that work the single-track line.
From here you pass the quaint village of Draughton before reaching your final destination at Bolton Abbey, where the 12th century ruined Augustinian monastery provides a stunning backdrop.
A great way for children to experience the magical huffs, puffs and toots of steam travel combined with the excitement of Christmas
