For over three decades, Dutch violin maestro André Rieu has dazzled audiences with his modern take on waltz music. Forty million records are testament to that but nothing compares to seeing the King of Waltz and the Johann Strauss Orchestra perform live in concert.

Born in 1949, Rieu was always destined to carve a name for himself in the classical music industry. From a very young age he was fascinated by orchestras, his father was a conductor in the local symphony and he was brought up in a household filled with classical music and operas.
After taking violin lessons at the age of five he went on to study violin at the Conservatoire Royal in Liege and at the Conservatorium Maastricht. He concluded his music training with distinction in 1977 at the Conservatoire in Brussels.

Rieu’s Johann Strauss Orchestra, which he formed in 1987, has evolved from having just 12 original members to being a magnificent 60 piece today, fronted by the maestro himself and his treasured Stradivarius violin.
