Dornoch.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing Scottish break, romantic weekend or outdoor adventure, the town of Dornoch in the Highlands will appeal to you
Standing proudly on the edge of the Scottish Highlands and facing the striking waters of the North Sea, Dornoch is blessed with natural wild beauty, outstanding beaches and a cultural heritage to rival some of the most historical cities and landmarks in Scotland.
The town itself dates back centuries. The Picts are known to have settled in the surrounding area long before the Vikings invaded.
As you walk through the town centre, admire the attractive buildings made from local golden sandstone which add a romantic touch to the town. The town’s cathedral founded in 1224 is one of the most exquisite examples. It takes the title as the smallest cathedral on the UK’s mainland but is charismatic and well worth a visit.
Whilst the town may not have the High Street chains, it does have a perfect blend of independent boutiques, bakeries and craft shops which you will love spending time browsing.
Like a lot of places in Scotland, Dornoch has a rich golfing heritage too, and the town’s Royal Doroch championship course is regularly ranked in the Top Ten in the world.
An interesting fact is that Skibo Castle, near Dornoch, is the place where popstar Madonna married Guy Ritchie in 2000, whilst her son was baptised at Dornoch Cathedral.
