Since exploding onto the music scene in 1985 with a cover of The Valentine’s Brothers “Money’s Too Tight To Mention”, Simply Red have gone on to become one of the UK’s most successful bands of all time, selling an incredible 60million records worldwide and enjoying 20 Top 20 UK singles.
In that time they have released some of the most iconic albums of a generation, fronted by Mick Hucknall’s distinctive exemplary voice, starting with their debut album “Picture Book”, which featured “Holding Back The Years”.
More success followed with “A New Flame” in 1989, which was certified platinum seven times and featured their cover of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”.
Their 1991 release “Stars” became the best-selling album for two consecutive years in the UK and Europe, the first album to achieve this feat since Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. It featured five Top 40 hits, including “Something Got Me Started”, earned them back-to-back Brit Awards in 1992 and 1993 for British Act and went on to be certified platinum twelve times.
More success came for the band in the late 90s and noughties until they decided to call it a day after a 25 year run in 2010.
