Over half a century after the film’s release in which Julie Andrews stole the show as Maria, The Sound of Music remains possibly the most famous musical of all time.

If you needed reminding it tells the story of Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, when she leaves the convent to become governess to the seven children of navy captain Georg Von Trapp, who runs the household with strict discipline following the death of his wife.

When Maria arrives, she is met with the same hostility as other governesses before her that the children have managed to get rid of one by one.

However, through music, fun and an appreciation for the little things in life she manages to win their hearts, including the Captain's.

But unbeknown to them world events threaten to overshadow their love as Austria is taken over by Nazi Germany and the Captain is required to fight against his own country unless they can escape.

It can’t be easy to recreate such an iconic film but hats off to producer Bill Kenwright and director Martin Connor for managing to do so.

Featuring a breathtaking set that will transport you to the Austrian Alps and some brilliant acting from a superb cast, this is a splendid production which proves the hills are very much alive.
