Thirty-five years after its initial success on Broadway and over a decade after it was adapted for a 2006 film starring Beyoncé Knowles and Jennifer Hudson, multiple Tony, Grammy and Oliver award winning show Dreamgirls has exploded onto the West End stage for the first time.

And, boy has it been worth the wait! receiving five star acclaim from the critics and standing ovations every performance.

Based loosely on Diana Ross and The Supremes, Dream Girls follows the journey of talented young female soul-singing trio Effie, Lorell and Deena from Chicago, Illinois who make up the ‘Dreams’, and their rise to fame in the glittering 1960s.

Join the three friends as they discover the ups and downs of the music industry that will test the group dynamic to the max.

After being plucked from obscurity as a backing group for an established singer by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor, the Dreamettes are the hottest new talent in America and destined for the big time.

But soon they are confronted by the industry’s ruthless side as the girls must decide how much compromise they are willing to make to fulfil their dreams, as Taylor replaces feisty and curvaceous Effie with the slimmer, prettier and more commercially appealing Deena as lead singer.

It’s a powerful story which provides a real insight into the ruthless nature of an industry where commercial success often comes at a price.

Dripping in more colour and sparkling gowns than Strictly Come Dancing, Dreamgirls is a glittering production that’s a real visual feast but this doesn’t take the shine away from the vocals of the trio of singers as they belt out-stopping numbers such as “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” “I am Changing,” “Listen” and “One Night Only” with real gusto and sass.
