Spectacular Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second largest lake which straddles both Italy and Switzerland, is a majestic coach holiday destination which oozes classical Italian charm.

Its tranquil azure waters, which are home to more than 42 towns and five islands, are surrounded by backdrop of rolling hills and towering mountain peaks, which provide some of Europe’s most mesmerising views that influenced the works of poets Shelley and Byron.

Lake Maggiore’s mild climate and over 2300 hours of sunshine makes it the perfect year-round coach holiday destination.

The picturesque towns, which line the western shore of the lake, enjoy a cosmopolitan lifestyle and a perfect mix of stunning architecture, elegant boutiques, quirky museums and lively piazzas packed with coffee shops and cafes where you can relax and spend time people watching.

Nestling at the foot of the Mottarone peak, Stresa is the lake’s most popular resort due to its palm-lined promenades which line the shore and provide idyllic views of the Borromean Islands.

Take a cable car to the top of Mount Mottarone to enjoy superb panoramic views of the islands and surrounding landscapes of this wonderful Italian lake. Alternatively hop on a boat to Isola Bella for a closer look at the magnificent barque architecture and tiered gardens of Palazzo Borromeo.

The beautiful landscaped gardens of Villa Pallavicino and Villa Taranto are also great places to enjoy a stroll.

Further north, Baveno is renowned for its granite quarries and natural hot springs, Pallanza is an elegant lakeside town, whilst Cannero is one of Maggiore’s gems with its picturesque harbour.
