The Beatuiful Coastal Resort of Exmouth!
The Devon seaside resort of Exmouth widely regarded as the oldest seaside resort in Devon, first chronicled as part of Viking invasions in 1001. By 1200 the town had established itself as an important port for anchoring and building boats, and subsequently became a popular haunt for smugglers in the area.
Today the resort is a charming town boasting stunning Georgian buildings, and has a diverse appeal for all ages thanks to its wide range of activities on offer and spectacular setting.
The town’s family friendly golden beach is the main hub of activity. Lounge on the sand and soak up the sun, take a dip in the sea or explore the rock pools dotted along the coast. If you‘re an adrenaline junkie you can also enjoy the many watersports on offer, including kayaking, jet skiing and windsurfing.
The town marks the start of an UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, with its dramatic cliffs dating back over 250 million years which can be best viewed on a stroll along the coastal path. Alternatively hop on a boat trip of the shoreline to see the theatrical deep red cliffs rising from the sea.
Head down to the harbourside and you will lose track of time as you watch the working boats bringing in their catch of the day. It also makes a nice spot for a pleasant evening stroll and an ice cream.
The town has a vibrant shopping scene featuring a mix of High Street names and independent shops. It also boasts a rich cultural heritage with many famous names residing here, most famously the wives of Nelsons and Byron.
If you love spotting wildlife, venture up the Exe Estuary itself to the picture postcard village of Lympstone. The coastal path is a real haven for wildlife and rare birds.
