If you’ve ever fancied a trip to London’s dazzling West End then we highly recommend visiting this year. Not only are all the family-favourite and classic musicals still playing, but a whopping EIGHT musicals are also opening this year! Which one will you choose?
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love
We’re super excited about this one! The original production of Aspects of Love premiered in London back in 1989 starring Michael Ball in the role of youthful Alex Dillingham, and now, 34 years later he is returning for a very special revival; this time playing the character of Uncle George. The piece has even been restructured to allow Ball to perform the iconic song, Love Changes Everything. Our two-day break is not to be missed.
The Wizard of Oz
It’s time to join us to Follow The Yellow Brick Road from your local pickup point all the way to one of the country’s most esteemed venues; the London Palladium! The Wizard of Oz first played in London back in the 1940s and it’s still as much loved now as it was back then. With the talented Ashley Banjo (founder of the dance group Diversity) set to play The Tin Man and Jason Manford (multi-award-winning stand-up comedian) playing The Cowardly Lion, our great-value getaway is perfect for the whole family.
Crazy for You
Another classic musical is getting a well-deserved West End revival this year. Having celebrated its 30th anniversary at the Chichester Festival Theatre last year, Crazy For You is the perfect feel-good show to watch this summer. You can expect fabulous choreography and plenty of toe-tapping Gershwin melodies like Someone To Watch Over Me, I Got Rhythm and They Can’t Take That Away From Me.
We Will Rock You
This ode to rock music has made an incredible mark across the world (it’s toured 30 countries and counting!) but now it is FINALLY time for We Will Rock You to make it’s long-awaited return to London. Playing for a strictly limited run, it will star West End favourites Brenda Edwards (Hairspray, Sister Act) and Lee Mead (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked). Book today - this is sure to sell out.
Grease The Musical
Starring Peter Andre in the roles of Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel, Jason Donovan as Teen Angel and Louise Redknapp as Teen Angel (on selected dates), Grease The Musical is twirling into the Dominion Theatre in a cascade of pastel, retro poodle skirts and an even more colourful soundtrack! If you’re looking for classic songs, high-energy and a fun-filled trip to London, then this break is guaranteed to be the one that you want.
Mrs Doubtfire the Musical
Helllllooooooo dears! After dazzling audiences in Manchester and across the pond on Broadway, the one and only Mrs Doubtfire is finally coming to London and - judging by the very limited availability on our two-day break - our customers really cannot wait! Want to see this ‘hip old granny who can hip-hop, bebop, dance til ya drop and yo-yo, make a wicked cup of cocoa’ for yourself? Book soon, poppets. This is going to be a sell out!
The Great British Bake Off Musical
When we first heard about this brand-new musical, we were expecting Paul Hollywood to burst on stage out of a giant profiterole (we can only dream right)! The Great British Bake Off Musical has very recently opened on the West End to piping hot reviews…The Telgraph called it a ‘slick, colourful musical adaptation of the all-conquering TV contest’, WhatsOnStage said ’Bake Off is the musical you never knew you kneaded’ and The Times confirmed ‘the songs are witty, and Rachel Kavanaugh’s production is suffused with a self-deprecating sense of the ridiculous.’ Sign us up!
Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations
Last but by no means least, is Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations. If you’re a fan of soul music, then this is the show you need to see this year. We’ve watched a sneak peek of the cast singing My Girl and trust us, it was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Following the story of the band’s journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is your chance to discover how the blueprint for the future of R&B was created and how Motown was defined!
