For just ten weeks throughout summer and early Autumn, Buckingham Palace throws its doors open to the public, enabling you to see first-hand the rooms where the Royal Family spend most of their time.

Feel like royalty as you wander the nineteen lavish State Rooms on a guided multimedia tour. Soak up the splendour of the décor and marvel at the treasure trove of items from the Royal Collection, including paintings by masters such as Van Dyck and Canaletto, plus furniture, sculptures, chandeliers and exquisite Sevres porcelain.Top of your list of rooms to view must be the grand White Drawing Room, which is home to treasures including a lavishly gilded piano and roll-top desk, plus iconic portrait of Queen Alexandra. Take a close look around and see if you can spot the concealed door behind one of the cabinets which provides a discrete entrance for the Royal Family.

Step inside the Throne Room to see the pair of thrones made for The Queen’s coronation ceremony. It is this room where The Queen receives loyal addresses and the setting for the formal wedding photographs of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Make sure also to visit the opulent Music Room, which is used extensively to entertain royal guests and where The Queen’s eldest three children were christened. Keep an eye out for rare Sevres vases and the grand piano, by John Broadwood & Sons.

Every year the summer opening of Buckingham Palace features a special exhibition. This year the theme is ‘Royal Gifts’ – and allows you to take a close look at a collection of items presented to The Queen during her 65 year reign form countries across the globe.
