The Buddy Holly Story captures his whirlwind career right from the formation of The Crickets and his first recording contract, through to his time in New York.
It follows Buddy from the recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee to Harlem's Apollo Theatre, climaxing in a live rock'n'roll extravaganza at the 'Winter Dance Party” as his new brand of music takes the world by storm.
Tragically his show at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper proved to be his final one. Just hours after his performance, in the early hours of 3 February 1959 he was tragically killed in a plane crash, "the day the music died" – as Don McLean called it in American Pie.
Although it’s a tragic tale, The Buddy Holly Story is an uplifting stage production which evokes the short yet inspirational career of one of music’s most influential artists of all time.
