A visit to John O’Groats on your coach break with National Holidays will stay with your forever.
Located at the northern tip of Scotland, the village is named after Dutchman Jan De Groot, who obtained the first contract to run a ferry to neighbouring Orkney in 1496.
If you head to the picturesque harbour you can still jump on a ferry to the nearby islands or embark on a wildlife cruise, for a chance to see dolphins, seals, minke and prolific bird life, including guillemots and fulmars. If you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of Orca whales in the surrounding waters.
John O’Groats is a hive of activity twelve months of the year as it marks the start for many charity cyclists and walkers making their trek to Land’s End. Make sure you remember your camera and pose with the famous sign which marks the start of the 874 mile trip to the other end of Britain.
The village features a number of gift shops, a museum and also a craft village where you can buy all sorts of unusual gifts and local souvenirs.
