There is nothing quite like a seaside break in England to blow away the cobwebs. Delivering everything from those dramatic mid-winter sunsets to the balmy chippy teas on a summer’s evening, they’re some of our top-selling breaks all year round.
We’ve rounded up some of our favourite coastal hotspots to help you decide which beachside destination to visit in the new year.
Blackpool
When we think of classic British resorts, Blackpool is always one of the very first destinations that springs to mind. Nestled on the north-west coast, this coach holiday favourite ticks off first-rate amusements, world-famous attractions and miles of sandy beaches. And when it comes to a thrilling calendar of year-round events, Blackpool holds its own.
Beyond the sunshine and shoreline, you’ll spy the iconic Blackpool Tower (or the Eiffel Tower of the North, as we like to call it) which punctuates the skyline in all its glory next to the loop-the-loop silhouettes of Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach…pure postcard material!
Torquay
If you like to holiday in the UK but miss the atmosphere of the Mediterranean, then the seaside resort of Torquay is the perfect destination for you! Its beautiful harbour, exotic gardens, palm tree-lined promenade and al fresco dining options on the seafront all provide a truly continental feel.
Nestled in the heart of Devon’s English Riviera, Torquay has been one of the country’s favourite holiday resorts since the 19th century thanks to its glorious beaches and balmy microclimate. The sparkling white villas perched on the hilltops and elegant Victorian facades have remained along the main streets, creating a pretty backdrop for a memorable getaway beside the seaside.
Isle of Wight
Stroll down seaside memory lane with a break to the Isle of Wight. It is said to be the sunniest place in the UK and it receives an average of almost 2000 hours of sunshine each year – more than some parts of Spain!
Whether you fancy exploring the peaceful villages on this pocket-sized paradise island, kicking back on a sandy beach, taking a ride on a vintage steam train or exploring an English Heritage property fit for a Queen (here’s looking at you Osborne House) one thing is for sure; our breaks serve up R&R by the bucket (and spade) load!
Brighton
Up next is trendy Brighton (or Eastbourne’s cooler big sister, as we like to call her)! There are so many iconic landmarks that form the city’s identity such as the grand Brighton Palace Pier on the seafront. Home to all the attractions that give Brighton its seaside resort flavour, the pier includes cafés and stalls for ice cream and fish and chips that complete the day-at -the-beach experience.
There are also uninterrupted panoramic views on offer from the beachfront British Airways i360 Viewing Tower which glides up to 450 feet above the city! And when the sun goes down, Brighton comes alive with its famous nightlife scene.
Scarborough
Known as Britain’s “original seaside resort”, the beautiful town of Scarborough has been delighting holidaymakers of all ages for generations thanks to its inviting beaches, gorgeous scenery, family-friendly attractions, boutique shops and timeless seaside charms.
Located on the stunning Yorkshire coast, the town’s distinctive Victorian architecture has helped to establish it as the classic image of British seaside getaways, where people ride donkeys and enjoy a delicious ice cream on the beach or stroll across landscaped coastal walkways.
